So David? Yeah. What do you think Twilight is about?
David:Well, well, what what vampires. We know that, like, culture knows that it's about vampires. I know that Robert Pattinson's in it and I think he plays the lead main spooky vampire and Kristen Stewart's in it. And so then I think it's going to be a love obviously probably a love story because I know this is kind of a You franchise. And I know that I think I think Martin Sheen's in one of the later films and I kind of like him just because I
Kella:heard him in a different interview talk like like it
David:was like some other interview that he talked about That's being in it or all I know about that. I've heard, you know, I've heard some people now, now that they know that we're doing this, we've had some of our friends or coworkers mention like, oh, okay, here's something. People have said like, oh, are you team Edward or team some other character?
Kella:Yeah.
David:Okay. I don't even remember that person's name now, but I think that that's gonna be a werewolf Okay.
Kella:That's a very, okay. It's a very important question. What team are you on? And I'm not gonna ask you that question until the very last episode.
David:Okay.
Kella:Because it it's it's it's a divine it's a it defines how you you saw, how you view Oh the my gosh. Based on what team you choose. And I will say this, there is a there is a right answer and there is a wrong answer.
David:Okay.
Kella:And I'm just letting you know that now.
David:Well, and then the only other thing I really know, and I'm kind of not joking here, is that I think the vampires fly from tree to tree and they glow in the sunlight instead of die.
Kella:I was actually gonna ask you, what do you think like, what kind of vampires do you think that they are? Well, I think they're made up ones for this universe. Well, all vampires are. But you know how cinematically there's vampires live in coffins. Mhmm.
David:Yeah. Right. Yeah. If we're doing the interview with the vampire or the Dracula stuff, I'm gonna guess that these are okay. Now maybe I hope I'm not being disrespectful.
David:I'm gonna guess that these are, like, a super hip version of vampires, they don't do the coffins and whatever, and we'll see.
Kella:We will see. But it's interesting that you call them, like, a spooky vampire.
David:Edward? Yeah. Well, you know, I think I think so all I've ever seen of Twilight is that first trailer. I don't know. It was ten, fifteen years ago.
David:I saw the first trailer, and then I honestly thought, like, oh, I'm happy that Cedric Diggory guy is getting some work. I'm good. Like, I knew I didn't need to see it.
Kella:I feel like you're referring to the scene where she goes, I know what you are. I don't know what you're talking about. Oh, you will. Is it in the trailer? I think it's
David:in the trailer. Might be in that first trailer.
Kella:I think it might be.
David:But, Kello, let's say hi to our audience.
Kella:Hello. Welcome. Moving on. Welcome. Shout out to all the Twilight Podcast who were there back in 2008 and are still going hard.
David:Welcome to is this For Forks sake? Is that the name of our show? Kinda like it.
Kella:I feel like that's I feel like that's the route to go.
David:Welcome to For Forks sake.
Kella:Where we put the hard and twi hard.
David:For for Forks sake, a Twilight Podcast. The this is a show where in Kelle, my roommate, and I are going to watch all the Twilight movies. I have never seen any of them. I don't really know anything about Twilight. Kelly, you are would you say a big fan?
Kella:Oh, I'm I'm obsessed. I listen. I'm gonna I'm gonna let you in on a little secret here. I used to not only have all the posters in my room. I had a life-sized cardboard cutout of Edward Cullen in my bedroom.
Kella:I also used to carry around a shoebox
David:Oh, no.
Kella:Of pictures that I printed off the Internet of Robert Pattinson. And I would take it to I I I was convinced at, like, 13 that I was gonna marry Robert Pattinson.
David:Kella, yeah. I support this.
Kella:There's still hope. He's not married yet. And probably listening. Oh my god. I would love that.
David:Oh, I can't stop. Well, this is gonna be fun. This is gonna be fun. I've I've I've made many other shows in the past, but I'm already looking forward to this show quite a bit. Kela, let's see.
David:What else is the setup? We're gonna so what we're gonna do here with this show is gonna be a limited series show. We're going to do we're gonna watch all five films. And the way we're going to handle this is I think we're going do one episode, for example, today's episode, where we'll talk about the upcoming film and maybe I'll try to guess what's happening. I don't know.
David:We'll just discuss things. We'll watch the movie and a little bit behind the curtain right now, you and I are going to literally watch the first Twilight, I think extended cut tomorrow night.
Kella:Yes.
David:And then almost immediately after watching it, we're going to record our second episode where you and I will, I don't know, review the movie or just talk about like what we experienced. Yes. And then, of course, episode three will be me slash us guessing what will happen in the in the next film and so on.
Kella:Yes. Absolutely. And I'm definitely rewatching these is like it's always nostalgic. I always remember exactly where I was the first time I read the books.
David:Oh, wow.
Kella:The first time I, like, saw the movies. I mean, I remember sitting in the movie theater to watch Twilight for the first time and my heart was pounding. I was so excited.
David:That's like that was like what the first Jurassic Park was for me. Yeah. I mean, I'm not trying to take it and move it into something else, but, like, I get it.
Kella:It, like, blew my mind. Yeah. Something in my little teenage girl brain was like, this is it. Yeah. How were you in how were you
David:so I I was introduced Twilight just because I was, like, perusing movie trailers because that's what you did back then. How were you introduced to Twilight? Was it the books first?
Kella:It was actually the movies first. Okay. I actually saw a movie trailer, and then I think everyone saw the movie trailer and then we were all like, oh, there's books. And I had friends that had read the books and they were like, oh, we're all obsessed. And I was like, yes, absolutely.
Kella:Let me get on on this. I love it. And it actually I will say this. I didn't read before Twilight.
David:That was the
Kella:that's what brought you in? That's what brought me into being a reader. And now I read I'm I mean, I'm not reading anything young adult anymore. It's a little bit more adult now these days. But there is some yeah.
Kella:It's Woah. Woah. You just went into
David:a deep little hole in your brain there.
Kella:There is a fun fact I wanna tell you.
David:Okay.
Kella:So are you aware of 50 Shades of Grey?
David:Oh, yeah. And I know that it was fan a fan fiction blog of Twilight.
Kella:Yeah. Yes. So definitely crossover there. Oh, I sweetly and innocently with Twilight and then
David:Did you read the Twilight fan fiction before it became 50 Shades of Grey?
Kella:I didn't. Oh. I'm actually not a big fan fiction person.
David:Yeah. Well, honestly, a little bit, I'm not either. I think I think for people for fans to exercise their headcanon and to exercise what if scenarios, think is cool and creative. But I'm not like a hardcore lore person, but I kinda like the I also am not a big fan fiction person because it's kinda I mean, it's fun. It's a what if, but I'm kinda good with what the stories give me, honestly.
David:I don't know. Do you feel the same? Like, emotionally, I'm kinda like, give me what you will, and then I'll I'll build my own
Kella:For for certain for certain fan fictions, I do plan on reading some, but it's crazy what they do in fan fictions and how how massively fan fiction can actually translate into, like, an actual franchise. Without Twilight, we wouldn't have a lot of like, this is canon. Without Twilight, we wouldn't have 50 Shades of Grey. We wouldn't have any of those actors making their big Mhmm. What I wanna say is, like, their big theater debut.
Kella:We wouldn't have Batman.
David:Because Robert Pattinson wouldn't have reason to fame or whatever.
Kella:This was his breakout role. Sure. Like, sure, he was in Harry Potter, but, like, they killed him.
David:One and done.
Kella:You know? Devastating, actually. That was a devastating moment.
David:It was.
Kella:Because he's so hot. Okay. He really is. Uh-huh. Uh-huh.
Kella:I think about it a
David:lot. You're just you're just you're just, like, soaking it in right now.
Kella:I
David:am. You're literally staring off into the middle distance as we say this right now.
Kella:It's such a moment when you are a child and I feel like teenagers feel everything deeply. I mean, was just-
David:Because it's the first time they're starting to feel this.
Kella:It was like a transformation.
David:Yeah, transformer too.
Kella:My dad was like, I remember reading the first book and then needing the second book. I just needed to read it. And I went up to my dad and I was like, I need this book. The library doesn't have it. I need this book, dad.
Kella:And he actually took me to the store and bought me a book. I think he was just so happy I was reading. Every parent's dream is wanting their child to be a reader for some reason. Like, it's gonna make me smarter. Maybe it did.
Kella:But yeah.
David:So yeah. So so this is and so so this is like what so we are we we we we are roommates. We've been living together for about a month and a half. Yes. We've we've only known each other for about three or four months, honestly.
Kella:We've been roommates for two months now.
David:Has it been about two now, isn't it? Yeah. I guess so. Yeah. You're right.
Kella:I've been having the time of
David:my life. I love being a roommate with you, but this is one thing that is also kind of interesting is that we do have a bit of age distance between us. I think there's a good fifteen years between us. Yeah. And so, you know, you're speaking about how you experienced Twilight and I think you were like right at that age, the perfect age when it came out, which I'm guessing was like 12 to 14.
Kella:Yeah. I was definitely the right age for when that movie came out.
David:Mhmm.
Kella:You definitely weren't.
David:I was in and out of college already.
Kella:Yeah. It's definitely not your demographic. I think most of the men back then that were going to see Twilight were probably being dragged by their girlfriends.
David:I see.
Kella:So
David:I enjoy being a fan of things. Yes. I enjoy being a fan of Zelda, Jurassic Park, Star Wars, plenty of other things.
Kella:Oh, yeah.
David:This one's never pinged me. And I'm also like a little I was a little not too old, but I was older, like even when like Pokemon came out and there's a lot of my friends or that are a bit younger than me that are mega into Pokemon and that's awesome. But I was kind of already going into college when like Red and Blue came out. You know what I mean? And I remember thinking, oh, that's cool, but it didn't hit me on that emotional level.
David:Guess that is like what you're speaking about.
Kella:Yeah.
David:So I'm actually really excited about this project because I don't have any real emotional, like, need. I don't feel like I need to experience this franchise, but I do, you know, love to love things. Others have said that before me, and I really want to see what happens here as we do this.
Kella:I I feel like you do need to see this franchise. I will say this. The first movie, Cult. It's totally Cult.
David:Okay.
Kella:It is a total you could watch the first movie and be done
David:with it,
Kella:to be honest.
David:What's it? Is the first movie called the actual Twilight?
Kella:Yeah. Just Yeah. Yeah. And so there's four books, five movies. They split the last book into two.
David:I knew that. They pulled the Harry Potter.
Kella:As they do in Harry as they do in Hollywood,
David:you know? Yeah. Yeah. Oh, shoot. We gotta, you know, milk it for one more film.
David:Yeah. Yeah. Make it a two parter. There's just so much content in that final book that we must make two films.
Kella:I mean, there there was actually. Yeah. It was there was, like, a part one and a part two, and it was a whole thing.
David:Oh, that's one other thing I know about Twilight is that there's apparently a dream scene battle sequence in one of them that a lot of people got upset about. That's the only thing I know. That's all I know, though. I don't know where, when, or how. Didn't I didn't even know that there were factions that were going to fight.
David:I I thought this was about a a girl loving a vampire boy.
Kella:What do you think is going to be, like, their biggest issue? Like, romance? Because it's obviously a romance. We all know it. Yeah.
Kella:What do you think is going to be, like, the thing that, like, Okay, is trying to pull them apart? Or do you think that there's a thing there?
David:Well, if I had to guess, one of the I think the first film will probably be pretty like small in quotes. And what I mean by that, probably more like a character study, just Bella trying to figure out how she feels about Edward and Edward trying to
Kella:figure out how he feels about Bella.
David:I don't know. Maybe it's probably just going be something a little bit more small like that. But I also if the vampire why would vampires fight each other? We know why vampires and werewolves fight each other in common lore. They just they just really hate each other.
David:Yeah. In other I'm sure that that probably continues here in Twilight. Another common trope in vampire stories is that there's the like the vegetarian vampires. What what, you know, sometimes people refer to. It doesn't literally mean vegetarian, but it means like the vampire.
David:Like this happens in Interview with the Vampire. It happens in a couple. I think it happens in Angel.
Kella:There's there's always something
David:There's like in a vampire that he's just so good hearted that he just
Kella:won't eat Vampires people that don't kill.
David:Yeah. Yeah. Won't kill people, but they'll go eat 9,000,000 rats just to survive and all that kind of stuff. Like Brad Pitt did that in Interview with the Vampire. So maybe there's like a we do eat people, we don't eat, or we do drink people's blood, we don't drink people's blood feud.
David:But honestly, I can't figure it out. Otherwise, if it's just like families versus families and it just turns into Game of Thrones or something, that might be a little less exciting for me.
Kella:I don't know how much
David:Well, let you in maybe let me in on nothing, but let's say this episode, we're technically supposed to be talking about just the first. I mean, we can talk But about the whole what what what did you expect the first film to be when you went to go see it? Or did you just know that there was a super hot vampire boy?
Kella:I was there for the romance. Yeah. Pretty much.
David:Which is also why I wanted to see Jurassic Park the first time.
Kella:It's really the romance. With a lot of You stuff, when it comes to romance, yeah, there's a romance and a forbidden thing, and then there's always some sort of conflicting thing that's not necessarily between the two lovebirds. It's always a third party that kinda gets in the way.
David:Interesting. To hold them apart. You know, monsters the monster archetype in general usually is a metaphor for like a forbidden love. If you're talking about Dracula or even a werewoofer, not so much zombies, but sometimes ghosts and stuff. You know, all of them are kind of have like their own metaphors, you know.
David:Zombie stories are really metaphors for like surviving in the wild. Vampires are a little bit sometimes vampire stories are like a metaphor for an addiction, you know, like if a vampire is dealing with drinking the human blood they do or don't want to, some stories will go in that direction. Ghosts and stuff sometimes have to do with like internal peace and turmoil. And so I feel like the vampire, not trope, but the vampire outline would fit well for a forbidden love storyline. Wanna be together, but we can't.
David:You know, maybe that's what's going on here.
Kella:You know what? I think that's what makes Twilight Lake so different because it doesn't do any of those, really. Woah. I mean, it kind of does in some aspects Mhmm. But not not really.
Kella:Not in at least not in this first one. This first one is not like that at all,
David:I don't I think they're in high school in this first one. They are. They're They're like, in high these are, we're dealing with kids, right? Theoretically, storyline wise yeah, we're dealing kids, teenagers, yeah. Not, yeah, 18 or whatever or doesn't
Kella:I mean mean, they're technically their characters are 18.
David:Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. The actors are 37.
Kella:Obviously. Yeah. Do you actually I can read you like Wait. Oh, yeah. What do you
David:you you also pulled out some like Twilight. Maybe we should speak real quick about why we we decided to start making this podcast. About a month ago, you, your sister and I were hanging out here in the apartment. We were playing some game and we decided to switch it up. And you whipped out this like you have it here on the desk right now.
David:This Twilight trivia card game that you, I think, found it like a goodwill.
Kella:I found it at Salvation Army. What a find, by the way. I paid, like, $4 for this game, and it was brand new, not even opened. I lost my damn mind, and I bought it immediately. And apparently, there's like a whole board game that you can attach it with.
David:Really?
Kella:So you can, like, expand on the game itself.
David:Oh, I also we are both wearing matching Twilight shirts right now. I know the listeners obviously can't see this, but you so you've owned you we literally have the exact same Twilight shirt on right now, right? I think.
Kella:Yeah. I bought at, like, Ragstock.
David:Back in the day?
Kella:No. I bought this, like, six months ago, probably. Oh, okay. I just saw it and I was like,
David:that's mine.
Kella:Absolutely. I
David:mean, I do know.
Kella:Twilight's back in the game, baby.
David:Is it coming back around? Is that what's happening?
Kella:It's like it's like popular again. There's like there's a whole movement again with it. I mean, even Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart have, like, been in interviews, like talking about it again. Like, it's cool to, Twilight now.
David:Has it been ten years? Because with sometimes with pop culture, there's a ten year cycle.
Kella:It was it's been more than ten years because the first movie came out in 2008. Okay. Oh, wow. Think was like It's like thousand eight, 2009. Yeah.
Kella:So it's it's been a minute.
David:It has indeed been a minute. Yeah. Okay. So we have our matching Twilight shirts on. You got you found this one.
Kella:Yeah, we found
David:one at at work. Right? Yeah. We both are we're both coworkers at Target too, which is how we met each other, now we're living together.
Kella:Yeah. That's a whole thing. We share
David:You can I mean apartment and we share a job?
Kella:I feel like I should mention that the picture that's on on the t shirt, it's it's your classic Edward and Bella.
David:It's Edward with spooky face. Or he has, like, he has, like
Kella:It's so funny
David:that he calls Sith eyes. Spooky. Yeah. Because he well, he's all white. He's gaunt.
David:His cheeks are black. His eyes are black or his eye around his eyes are, like, dark shaded. And he has evil Sith eyes. He has yellow eyes.
Kella:They're golden brown. He's not spooky. He's handsome.
David:Okay. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I'm not saying he's not.
David:He's a very handsome man. I mean, those are tremendously chiseled cheekbones. They're just really, you know, they're a bit gaunt as far as the way the makeup goes is what I'm seeing as I'm literally looking at our shirts right now.
Kella:Yes, it's pretty pale. He's a vampire.
David:But it's Yeah, right. I know. Yeah. I'm very excited to see what Twilight's take on what a vampire is. And I'm not I'm not here to like push up my glasses and go, well, actually vampires are like this because there's so many different iterations of different versions of vampire lore that I'll accept all of it.
David:What I'm just interested to see what Twilight presents.
Kella:I feel like as we after you see the first one and as we get through it, there's there's a lot, I think, of things that don't particularly make sense with what kind of vampires they are. Oh.
David:Like workarounds from the common like, from a typical trope or something?
Kella:I wouldn't say there are workarounds. There's just one main thing that I'm thinking about, and I don't I think other people might know what I'm thinking about because vampires are obviously cold. And so there's there's the
David:whole Because they're not alive.
Kella:Because there's, like, some physiology in there. I think I think the people will know what I'm referring to.
David:Oh
Kella:my But I'm like, there's there's there's some the type of vampires they are. It's
David:Oh, you just made me think of something. I don't think wait a second. Okay. I don't know. I don't know if we're going here or not.
David:Alright. Are vampires I mean, they dead? Are they corporeal? Are they are the Twilight vampires dead? Or are they alive and just infected with vampire juice?
Kella:So they don't die to become a vampire?
David:Mhmm. Do they stop aging when they become a vampire? That's pretty typical.
Kella:They do stop aging. Yeah. But basically, and I don't wanna give away too much, but how these how in this particular because Edward's a part of his own little clan. Okay. His own little family.
David:Maybe his family, we learn, are actually the outcasts, that's where this war comes from later. But anyway,
Kella:I have no idea. Don't don't give
David:me anything. Okay. Let's keep going. Sorry.
Kella:And they don't they are dying when they get changed, but they're not already dead. Or they don't get bitten and then get killed, like in the Vampire Diaries or something.
David:I see. I see. So their muscles are still moving their bodies and they have like Do they have blood flowing through their body?
Kella:Do they
David:bleed if they get cut in Twilight?
Kella:They don't. I don't think I Alright,
David:alright, alright. Oh, we're going too far?
Kella:They don't bleed.
David:They don't bleed.
Kella:Okay. Well, you'll find out sort of what kind of happens at the end of the first movie. Okay. And then we can kind of get into it Got
David:End of the first movie. End of the first movie. So how would Twilight, knowing that this is a five arc story or a, you know, four story arc, I think the end of the first one is going to there's going to be some kind of resolve with Bella and Edward so that they can exist as its own story, right? Like that first book had to do something. Couldn't just be like next time on Twilight.
David:It had to like finish something. I'm going to guess that they fall in love at the end of the first one, that it works. Because I think if we're doing like the tween girl thing, pardon me, but if we're doing that, you need the romance arc. If, as you said, like you're going for the romance, you're going to that film for the romance or reading the book for the romance, even though there's a lot of other things going on, I think there needs to be some kind of resolve at the end of the first story, emotional resolve.
Kella:There's definitely resolve and then there's definitely like a little cliffhanger. There's something that gets resolved but also doesn't get resolved. Okay. I will say that much. And that builds up There's two things that happen in the movie that sort of build up the next two movies specifically.
Kella:And then obviously, like the fourth and fifth movies are kind of like their own thing, but it still carries on.
David:Okay.
Kella:Some of the same issues that we see at the beginning.
David:You so so you heard about the first movie, then you heard about the book, so you read the book before seeing the first movie or did see
Kella:the book? I read all of the books before I saw the first movie.
David:Woah. That's what I was just gonna ask. Yeah. All four or three?
Kella:Four. I went hard. Was like
David:Probably hard.
Kella:It was yeah. It was basically like you had given me drugs for the first time and I was like, I need more of this. Thank you.
David:I love it.
Kella:What was what what was it that gave you? What what emotion?
David:What was happening that made you want more of it? I'm serious.
Kella:Romance. That's I'm literally like, I'm a I'm a sucker for like a good love story. Oh, alright. I don't know why. But that's pretty much what hooked me.
Kella:Yeah.
David:Is it a will they won't they? Or or is it does it does it tease you too much?
Kella:It's not a will they
David:won't they. Good. Good.
Kella:It's not one of those.
David:Yeah. Sometimes that stuff can get a little old. Yeah. Because the because then you know they're separating the characters just so that they stretch out another.
Kella:It builds. Yeah, they don't do that. I think that's also kind of what makes Twilight different. There's no will they, won't they?
David:That's cool.
Kella:It's they will. And I guess that sort of brings up the question of what team you're on. Oh, okay. And how there's a right answer and a wrong answer.
David:Oh, because, oh, maybe this is
Kella:a Jack and Sawyer thing with Kate.
David:Like this, maybe this is more of
Kella:like a lost thing where Jack is Edward and Sawyer is the werewolf man. Yeah, it's a question, but it's not really a question.
David:I see.
Kella:I mean, there's there's no fighting it.
David:I'm also now starting to realize, pardon me, that in this first movie, it's probably gonna start pretty mysterious. It's probably gonna start with, like, if they're in high school, does he go to the high school? Well, maybe I'm not supposed to know this yet. Do they, like, share classes and stuff? Does he go to the school?
David:Yeah. Oh, so do you know what this is? Yeah. Of course. This is the this is the this is the the model of a girl or it could be anyone, but in this case, girl in high school class sees the moody hot guy, the mysterious hot guy in class, and adventure ensues.
David:Right? Like, I guess that it really comes it comes down to that. Right?
Kella:It kinda does. He's kind
David:of a goth guy. He's like the goth kid in the school? He's
Kella:no. No. Not at all. Okay. But you're you're get you're getting there.
Kella:Yes. They do mean they do mean school.
David:I see.
Kella:I feel like I should also mention, and I'm just gonna read you the this is what the one of the movie descriptions on IMDb is. Oh. Just gonna read it to you. It's it's like a short little sentence. When Bella Swan moves to a small town in the Pacific Northwest, she falls in love with Edward Cullen, a mysterious classmate Okay.
Kella:Who reveals himself to be a 108 year old vampire.
David:Reveals himself. So is that cool or gross to teenage Kello?
Kella:That was cool back then. Mhmm. I feel like as an adult, maybe not so cool. But I guess he's like a 108 stuck in a teenager's body.
David:Yeah. Which makes him not a teenager.
Kella:Which I think
David:it's Now we're dealing with consent and stuff. Yeah.
Kella:I think it's fine.
David:Okay.
Kella:They're in love. I guess it's okay.
David:Okay.
Kella:It's a little sus.
David:Got it.
Kella:But?
David:But who cares? He's hot and mysterious.
Kella:Yeah, he is.
David:Well, the cats are getting fed. This is no cuts. We're recording this live with this show. Anything look at Smush. She's just staring at town.
David:Uh-oh. We might have a little So you know, I'm also realizing that when I I got excited and I started talking about our shirts, but you were actually reaching for the cards in the on the trivia game. Were you did you have plans for those
Kella:I've got some questions for you. I want to see what you can kind of answer
David:I think I love this.
Kella:And what you can't answer. I do wanna start off with, like, how many characters can you name?
David:Well, I guess I know Bella and Edward now.
Kella:Yeah.
David:That is really it. I didn't even know Bella until I mean, until you said Bella in this episode, I didn't know that the girl's name was Bella.
Kella:Oh, really? Mhmm. You just okay. Okay.
David:And then Edward.
Kella:Oh my god. Do you know who Jacob is?
David:Is that the werewolf guy? Maybe. I don't know. You're just staring at me.
Kella:Is
David:he? Maybe that's the maybe that's the werewolf guy. Team Edward or team Jacob, I feel like that's something I've heard in culture, in pop culture or not, you know, just people talking.
Kella:Do you know who Carlisle is?
David:No idea what that is.
Kella:Charlie?
David:I mean, you know, at this point. I'm sure these are friend characters or is there other sidekick characters? Does Bella have a best friend or maybe she doesn't. Maybe she's kind of is she also new to school? Maybe she's trying to find her way and she finds her she finds her way with this other person who needs so then together so they together are together?
David:That's that's pretty romantic. Don't know. Is a bit of an outcast at high school?
Kella:Yeah. I'm not gonna give too much away.
David:She's not a cheerleader is what I'm gonna
Kella:No. Definitely, definitely not. I will say Kristen Stewart's gotten a lot of lot of backlash for her acting in these movies.
David:Okay. I don't
Kella:know if you've seen anything about that.
David:I don't
Kella:know anything about this. She does this like, I don't wanna say jittery, but this sort of like, just like this.
David:Oh, the hay that you grabbing your hair right now. I've seen people do that when they make fun of her.
Kella:Yeah. Yeah. Unfortunately, making
David:fun of people is never cool.
Kella:Very much a thing. I mean, it's fine. She kinda needed to be bullied a little bit. Her acting's improved.
David:Okay. That's a strong statement there, Kelly. Be careful.
Kella:It's a strong but I feel like the thing with Twilight also is I obviously started the first movie when I was 13, and by the time I was 18, they were coming out with the last one. And I feel like as a young teenage girl, 13 and 18 are two very different vibes.
David:Oh, yes. 100%.
Kella:Yeah.
David:You know, was thinking about this the other day. I know you're starting to grab some of the cards there, but I was thinking about, well, I was kind of because I before recording the show, I didn't want to plan anything really too much, but I was kind of like, okay, so what was my like 13 year old thing? Know, okay, fine. Maybe it was Jurassic Park. But there's another example.
David:But Jurassic Park has nothing to do with romance or male female relationships or anything like that. You know what I mean? That's a totally different category, like Jurassic Park. It's closer to Swiss Family Robinson than it is other things. So I was like, well, what's something that aged slightly poorly for me?
David:I was trying to think. And actually, I kind of realized that like for me when I was I was in maybe seventh or eighth grade when The Fifth Element came out. Are you familiar with that film?
Kella:Little bit. I've kind of, yeah,
David:seen it. When it came out, it was a, you know, it was a special effects masterpiece and all that. It got pretty decent reviews and everything. But I remember even five or six years later, I remember thinking it was so cool because, you know, you're I was trying to think of like, what's if if Kelle really likes Twilight and maybe is connecting or not connecting, but at least somehow connecting with like the female lead character in this series, I
Kella:was like, was there like a
David:guy version? Because in some ways you can think about like I don't know, maybe it's like action films for boys. Anyway, when I was trying to think of like male female romance where the male's the lead, in The Fifth Element, Bruce Willis's character is like immediate in love with the, I guess, hottie of the film, if I may, I apologize. But like the the the princess at the end of the castle, basically. Right?
David:Mila Jovovich plays her, and I don't even remember. Lulu. Lulu's her name. It's all coming back to me.
Kella:I really love and appreciate that there's a casting director out there somewhere that looks at looked at Bruce Willis and thought romantically?
David:Well, I think that's kinda what they played with because when I watched Fifth Element, I don't wanna turn this into the Fifth Element podcast, but when I saw Fifth Element, what kinda caught me about the way Bruce Willis portrayed Corbin Dallas, it's all coming back to me, was he kinda played him a little not macho. He kinda played him a little bit not goofier, but, like, he I mean, he had his macho moments, but he had, like, sweet moments. And in the in the at 13 or 14 or whatever when I first saw it, I was like, amazing, epic, amazing, best performance, you know, of the century. So cool that they fall in love. He gets to kiss her at the end because that's that's where your little kid brain is at.
David:You know what I mean? It's like, do they do they kiss at the end and that's the coolest thing in the world.
Kella:Typical typical, like, fantasy type Yeah.
David:We could also do, you know, knight in shining armor running to get the princess at the end of a Disney movie or who knows? Yeah. Right? It's that thing. Anyways, it's fine.
David:Fifth Element is still a very impressive and awesome cool movie. But I remember seeing it about ten years later and like the level of kind of macho entitlement that's in this film. The Li Lu character literally drops into this man's life and she is kind of the prize to be won. And it's all very he's he's like and this is not Bruce Willis's performance. It's in the script.
David:He just kind of assumes entitlement over her right from the get go. You know what I mean? She and and and then there's another character in there that's played by Chris Tucker. That's like kind of a super sexy guy, but he's also like mega entitled. And some of this stuff is like borderline harassment by today's standards.
David:You know what I mean? And so like and sometimes I'm not talking about films aging poorly well or poorly. It's not what I'm trying to talk about. What I am trying to say though is that 13 year old David, and maybe things were a little different in the mid-90s, certainly they were, but 13 year old David couldn't pick up on that subtext and those themes whereas 18 year old David or 25 year old David was oh.
Kella:Oh, there's definitely themes like that in Twilight that continues through the whole series that looking back at it, I'm like, this is not is not it.
David:Oh, interesting.
Kella:But, you know, vampires be like that.
David:Indeed, vampires be like that.
Kella:Okay. So you're ready for a few questions?
David:Yes.
Kella:Okay. Okay. This one's a big one. Mhmm. So
David:Are these are these all these questions just the first movie
Kella:or is this like cult first movie.
David:Okay.
Kella:Alright. You're not you're probably not gonna be able to answer, like, any of these.
David:Let's do it.
Kella:But the questions I'm gonna ask you I ask because there are certain moments in the movie that are kind of they kinda pop out.
David:Okay. I don't know what's
Kella:Some quotable some quotable moments.
David:Oh, I see. I see. I see.
Kella:Okay. What is okay. Bella is absolutely positive of what three things about Edward?
David:Oh my gosh. She's ab like, by the time the film's done or just in the course of the film or something like that, she is absolutely positive that he's a Mondo hottie. She's absolutely positive that he loves her because you said it's not a
Kella:will, he won't thing.
David:I don't know where I'm going with this. And she's absolutely positive that, I mean, is a bit on the nose, but that they can't be together or something like that.
Kella:No. Okay. Okay. Totally off. But we're gonna revert back to this question later.
Kella:Tell
David:me the answer? Oh, okay.
Kella:Oh, do you wanna know
David:what want? I don't know. Or do we do it, like, after we do we do it in episode two? Do we come back to these in episode two and find out what the answer is?
Kella:Maybe we do that. Maybe save these cards. Do that.
David:I like it. Save that save the deck
Kella:that we're some special ones.
David:Yeah. Filing through. Filing through the deck here.
Kella:Oh, there's a hole. I mean, it's it's thick.
David:Got some quality dead air here, Kela.
Kella:Sorry. Some of these are just like weird Oh, okay. Here's a here's a question.
David:Okay.
Kella:Who calls themselves the vegetarians?
David:The vegetarians? Wait, I said vegetarian vampire. Okay. So they're sticking to this this thing. Okay.
David:Yeah. Who calls themselves the vegetarians?
Kella:Yeah.
David:Well, okay. To make Edward less of a monster and to make him more attractive, I'm gonna guess that he's a vegetarian vampire then, or he was choosing to do that or something. So who calls themselves the vegetarians? Maybe it's his family. Maybe it's his group.
Kella:I mean, you're right. Oh, yeah?
David:Yeah. Okay. Alright.
Kella:Yeah. You are correct. Okay. Here's here's another question. And this Oh, question
David:that's why when the war comes, the non vegetarians are meaner and scarier and monsters.
Kella:No. Okay.
David:Okay. Let's keep going.
Kella:But I love that you think that.
David:I love that for you, Koella.
Kella:I love that for you, David. Okay. Here's here's your next question. And this question refers to one scene in this movie that is so iconic. Oh my goodness.
Kella:There's a song that comes with it.
David:Are there needle drops in these movies?
Kella:Needle drops?
David:There's, like, pop songs that happen in these movies?
Kella:Okay. This isn't talked about enough with Twilight, but the first sound the soundtrack for this movie?
David:Uh-huh. Iconic. Really?
Kella:It's probably, I personally think, one of the best soundtracks for a movie ever. Top three.
David:Is it, you pop song playlist kind of thing? And I don't mean any disrespect by
Kella:not saying that. Pop music per se.
David:Sure. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. But, like, not not Hans Zimmer or George John Williams or anything. It's not, like, orchestral.
David:Mean, I maybe there's some of that,
Kella:but No, there are they're so off.
David:There's like actual
Kella:Oh, it's got everything.
David:Is it the singing?
Kella:It's got everything. Okay. Oh, that's right. You don't know this. So it's very canon.
Kella:So there is a song that Edward does write for Bella and it's called her lullaby.
David:Okay. Bella's lullaby.
Kella:That's awesome. We should listen to the soundtrack actually.
David:Like right now? Could
Kella:probably Maybe do not right now. Okay. But you should definitely some great stuff.
David:I'll find it on Apple Music, I guess.
Kella:Okay. What weather condition do the Cullens need when they want to play baseball?
David:Okay. I'm obviously overcast or something. Right? Because they can't have the sun touch them to not glow. No.
David:Oh, rain? I don't know.
Kella:Wait. No.
David:To play baseball? Yeah. They play baseball? Yeah. Are these vampires from America?
Kella:I wouldn't say that, but they play baseball.
David:You know, the the classic ancient
Kella:American pastime. No. Eastern European pastime, baseball. Yeah. They What
David:kind of weather do they need?
Kella:Yeah. What kind of weather do you think they need?
David:Well, I mean, I said overcast, you said no. So do I have to go the other way? Is it, super sunny? That doesn't make any sense. No.
Kella:Not at all.
David:Nighttime? Snow? No. I mean, I'm just gonna go through all of them here.
Kella:Do you want the answer?
David:I guess so. I don't think it informs the story too much.
Kella:Right? Thunderstorms.
David:Ah, okay. Alright. Because they make so much noise playing their vampire baseball?
Kella:Kinda.
David:Okay. I did not expect that little tidbit of the story.
Kella:It's because they're really fast and And
David:really they go so fast that they break the speed of sound and No. There's sonic booms and that can can be hidden by the thunder?
Kella:No. No.
David:That'd be kinda cool though. Like, boom. He's on second. He's on third. Home run.
David:That was the vampires celebrating.
Kella:Oh, okay. Here's a good question. What does Edward's skin look like in the sun?
David:Well, it glows. We we have said it.
Kella:It doesn't glow. What? No.
David:Yeah. Isn't it like phosphorescent or something?
Kella:He doesn't glow. I feel like it's a very important distinction. He doesn't glow. What? He does, however, glitter.
David:Glitter as a verb. He glitters. He glitters. He shines like diamonds. He shines
Kella:Like diamonds.
David:Okay.
Kella:Yeah. He's I'm sorry.
David:Oh, he sparkles.
Kella:He sparkles.
David:And that subs so that allows them to because most of the time with most vampire lords, obviously, you know, you
Kella:can touch on the sun,
David:you turn into ashes.
Kella:Not in this one.
David:Because if you're glowing, sorry, if you're glittering, if you're sparkling, then you're outed as a vampire if people see you.
Kella:Yeah. Maybe
David:it's like something like that. Can they just wear clothes and sunglasses and then people can't see them glitter and then they can go out during the day like a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle pretending to be a detective in the night?
Kella:Interesting. Interesting.
David:I'm serious. Anyway, okay.
Kella:Oh, Well, maybe they do go out during the day. Okay. Okay. Let's keep going. It's it's also why they live in where they live.
Kella:Forks, Washington.
David:Which is like a well, so I one thing I very specific remember from the trailer is a lot of trees and a lot of him jumping from tree to tree.
Kella:Lot of overcast.
David:Kinda like he's flying up.
Kella:Yeah. I feel like it's also important to mention that they they do live in Forks, Washington. And tonight's episode, the title
David:Oh my gosh. I was supposed to ask you at the beginning.
Kella:I know. Are you ready for the title?
David:Yeah.
Kella:Welcome to Forks.
David:Welcome to Forks. I love it. Yep. I also this is a moment where I I also forgot to say this in the beginning. The title of our our of our show, our podcast, For Forks Sake was actually, I put a couple of tweets out there for some of my other podcasts just to see if we got some names.
David:And Nico Sullivan, who goes by nicotendo64 on Twitter, he was the one that actually gave us the For Forks Sake, a Twilight Podcast name. And so I just wanna say thanks to Nico. He's also a part of Zelda Dungeon and all of that. Lives just
Kella:Shout out to Nico.
David:Yeah, indeed. Absolutely. Thank you for the title of the podcast, Nico. And he got a little bit of love too from from some other people. Great Fairy Lulu said, like, literally, that's the perfect name for the show, so we're just going with it.
Kella:Yeah. I feel like it's
David:Welcome to Forks.
Kella:Welcome to Forks.
David:And Forks is the place, Forks, Washington. I think you said before we started recording that Forks is a real place?
Kella:Yeah. It's an actual place, and they actually filmed there.
David:Well, that's kinda cool.
Kella:And now the town has like so you can like go and eat at like the restaurant where they filmed at.
David:Oh my gosh. Yep.
Kella:And you
David:can go
Kella:eat there and like they've got like gift shops and stuff. I'm dying to go. I've never been, but I'm dying to go. But they have, like, so many gift shops. They have, like, costumes on display.
David:Do we go at the that's like is final that episode of this podcast? I don't know. We'll see.
Kella:Oh my god.
David:I know. Know. We're trying to keep this as a kind of a low key podcast, low production. But anyway
Kella:I love I I'm dying to go. But yeah. No. So Forks Washington is a very real place. Yeah.
Kella:They really filmed there, at least for the first one. I don't know about the others.
David:I'm sure the battle scene was a big green screen thing. I have no idea.
Kella:Yeah. They definite yeah. Yeah.
David:But if they if if it's set in forks and some exteriors in some shots, if not all, were shot in real forks, I think that's super cool, actually.
Kella:It's great for the town.
David:Great for Kind the of fun for the production to actually honor it and stuff like that. Was it Forks Washington in the books? Yep. Yeah. So they just stuck to all of that.
Kella:Yeah. Cool. Stephanie Meyer, that's what she wrote.
David:Stephanie Meyer.
Kella:And they went with it.
David:Is there has she did do you since you're mega Twilight Hard, is that did I say that? I mean, I know Twihard, but to refer to you, is that is that okay? Yeah. I see. Do you know did she ever has she ever this is off the cuff here.
David:I know you didn't, like, prepare for this or anything. Did she has she ever in interviews spoken as to spoken to why she wanted to write these books?
Kella:I actually I don't know if she she said why, but I think it's actually fan fiction from something else.
David:Oh, my goodness.
Kella:I'm I'm so serious. I'm We can check it. We can
David:adjust it on the second episode when we record tomorrow.
Kella:Yeah. I'm pretty I think I saw an interview with her once where the characters were based off of something You think
David:of something else? Mean, cool. Creativity begets creativity, I hope.
Kella:Don't quote me on it, but I'm pretty sure I saw Well, something like
David:cool. I think I think what we should I think we should wrap this episode up. We're kind of experimenting with how these episodes will even work. We're it's I I kind of love this, Kelly, because we it's so funny, I've been making podcasts for so long now that usually there's outlines and notes and there's, you know, month long trajectories of how the episodes are going to come together and there's listening feedback and blah, blah, blah, blah. And we're just going old school here.
David:The way we're recording this episode is like how you recorded podcasts ten, fifteen years ago, and I'm loving it. It's just kinda us just sitting here doing it.
Kella:Well, David, I have one last thing to say to you.
David:Okay.
Kella:Hang on tight, spider monkey.
David:Don't know what that means, and I I shall hang on tight, but I'm a little uncomfortable being called spider monkey.
Kella:You'll get that reference.
David:Alright. Bye bye bye tomorrow?
Kella:Bye tomorrow.
David:Well, we'll be back in episode two here where tomorrow we will be watching the whole film and I believe the extended cut. I don't know if that changes things a lot. Is it just a couple minutes here and there?
Kella:I think just like some deleted scenes. Alright.
David:Got put in. And we've chosen to watch the extended cut because it's it's it's official content. And in your opinion, does the extended cuts make the films more similar to the books? I'm guessing the films are fairly similar anyway.
Kella:They're fairly similar, I would say. I mean, there's definitely some things that are are always they just don't transition well from books to movies.
David:But Do the characters have inner monologue in the books?
Kella:Yes.
David:And so that might be I'm I'm I'm gonna guess there's not narration in the movies, but maybe there is.
Kella:There is. Oh, And the first one, I think.
David:Interesting. And it goes away? Wow.
Kella:It's it's
David:We'll see.
Kella:Different directors.
David:Oh, did they do the Harry Potter thing too or different director each? I think
Kella:they I think they did different directors for all the movies.
David:I had no idea. Cool. All right. So tomorrow we are watching Twilight.
Kella:Yep.
David:Which is still weird to say because I'm still thinking about Twilight being like this franchise. And immediately after we're gonna record, I guess another thirty, forty minutes of us reacting to it, talking about it. And then we'll be back in episode three, which we'll record a week from now or something. Where what's the what's the name of the second movie? I honestly don't know this stuff.
Kella:Twilight, New Moon.
David:New Moon? Yeah. Twilight, you know, whatever subtitle. New Moon.
Kella:And then the third one is Eclipse.
David:Eclipse.
Kella:And then the fourth and the fifth are Breaking Dawn.
David:I feel like I remember seeing Eclipse posters on in movie theaters. Like, maybe there's another movie coming out at time. But anyway. Yeah. Anything you need to say to me besides hang on spider monkey?
Kella:Hang on tight, monkey.
David:Alright. I mean, I'll use that as my mantra for watching the film tomorrow.
Kella:Yeah. You will.
David:Alright. We don't have a website for this podcast or anything like that, but we I mean, I don't even know. Maybe we'll build a little Twitter or something like that. But I
Kella:Honestly, just Google pictures of Robert Pattinson and think about me. That's what you're telling the audience to do right now? Yeah. Okay. If people wanna find me on social media, I'm raptor paint on Instagram and Twitter and that's about it.
Kella:We don't have a Twitter for the show or anything right now. This is pretty this is pretty raw, pretty grassroots. Kelle, is there anything you'd like to share about where people may or may not be able
David:to find you or are you cool?
Kella:I'm on I'm on Instagram. Yeah. You can find me. It's just it's just my first name. Oh.
Kella:First and last name.
David:Yep. Is.
Kella:I'm not hard to find.
David:Literally Myckella Sage? Yep. Mhmm. I think that's it. Yeah.
David:We don't have a whole, like, go visit our website thing or anything like that.
Kella:As I said, just Google Robert Pattinson and just think about me.
David:I'm into it. Alright, Keller. I'll see you tomorrow when we watch Twilight and talk about it.
